Sometimes the most interesting people drop by!

A few Echo High School-ites might remember Clyde Slocum, who stopped by to visit his old school this week. Approaching his ninth decade, Clyde shared many happy memories of his time here. Prior to being students here, the fierce Slocum boys beat the then indefatigable Echo Rockets boys singlehandedly! As students here, they beat the formidable Redwood Falls boys team.

This desire to walk down memory lane brought Clyde and his son, Brian, all the way from Chicago to visit his old haunts. He remembers how the old Franklin Hotel was brought by horse and wagon to Echo in the ‘40s. A charming historian and educator, Clyde was a longtime teacher, principal, and superintendent in Chicago, but his heart has always been in Echo. He was thrilled to learn about the school’s impending million-dollar gift from Orlo Lecy, who was in his older brother’s class.  While Clyde was unable to make it to the All-School Reunion in 2017, his brother attended and had a wonderful time.

The moral of the story is this: our school days are precious to us—even if doesn’t seem so for many years. Good times bring us back to the place we call home. Thanks for visiting ECHO Charter School, Clyde and Brian!
