Note from the Director

If you have been following the news, you will know that this Wednesday, March 14, marks the one-month anniversary of the tragic school shooting at Marjory Stoneman High School in Florida. While there is a national movement to acknowledge the tragic events by staging walk-outs across in schools across the country, what I am proposing moves away from the school walk-out model and instead, encourages a safety mindset in which we acknowledge the students whose lives were lost so senselessly.

Therefore, here is our plan: On Wednesday, March 14, at 9:55, I will convene a voluntary assembly in the cafeteria. The Community and parents are invited to attend. We will read the names of the students from Florida, talk about school safety, and most importantly, discuss how to help our kids build empathy. Studies prove that helping students (and grown-ups!) build empathy is a more effective means of preventing school shootings and violence.

Please join us as we hold this brief assembly on Wednesday morning! Thank you!
